From: [email redacted — Gmail account] Subject: Workers being held at massage place on Armenia Ave
I used to work the front desk at [business name redacted] Massage on Armenia Ave in Tampa for about 3 months last year. I quit because I saw things that bothered me.
The owner, who goes by "David" (I don't think that's his real name), keeps the workers' passports in a safe in his office. There are usually 4-5 women working there at any time and they all live in an apartment that David rents nearby. I think they are from China.
The women don't seem to be allowed to leave the apartment except to go to work. David drives them back and forth. I once saw one of the women crying and when I asked if she was okay David told me to mind my own business and that she was "just homesick."
I don't think the women are being paid properly — I handled some of the finances and the money didn't add up. I think David keeps most of what they earn.
I'm scared to give my real name but I can provide more information if you can guarantee my safety.
